In order to introduce a new federal immigration pathway, immigration minister Sean Fraser gave a speech today in Toronto at the Empire Club of Canada.
It is anticipated that the new route would start this summer under the Economic Mobility Pathways Pilot (EMPP). This new route is intended to assist employers in filling labor shortages by assisting them in hiring skilled refugees and other displaced people.
According to the IRCC, “The EMPP matches competent refugees and other displaced people with Canadian firms who need to fill labor shortages in critical occupations. In addition to giving Canadian employers access to an untapped talent pool from which they can recruit and keep workers with the skills they need to support our economy’s growth, this enables Canada to welcome vulnerable people.
